Our History

PG Calc was incorporated on March 15, 1985. A lot has happened here and in planned giving in the years that have followed. We’ve compiled this timeline to share some of the highlights with you.

1985

  • Gary Pforzheimer founds PG Calc.  Winston Jones, Bill Laskin, and Mary Yelle join Gary.
  • Planned Giving Manager 1.0 is released.
  • Emmett Watson of Columbia University becomes first PG Calc customer.

1986

  • PG Calc acquires Computone customers.
  • Pooled Fund Organizer 1.0 is released.

1987

  • PG Calc moves to its current location in Cambridge, MA.
  • PG Calc hosts its first User Training Workshop.

1988

  • Gift Annuity Management Program 1.0 is released, later to become Gift Annuity Organizer.
  • PG Calc mentor Mike Boland helps found NCPG.

1989

  • The first issue of PG Calc-U-Letter is published.
  • Monthly IRS discount rate is introduced.

1990

  • PG Calc distributes the first of thousands of t-shirts; the PG Calc’s grand t-shirt tradition is born.

1991

  • Our first group training session is offered.

1992

  • PG Calc licenses graphics from Gordon Caswell.

1993

  • The first release of PGM with a graphical user interface takes place.

1994

  • Reserve calculations are added to Gift Annuity Organizer.
  • PG Calc records its 1,000th client.
  • Universal Sub-Account Organizer 1.0 is released.

1995

  • The PG Calc website is launched.
  • Gary receives the David M. Donaldson Distinguished Service Award from Planned Giving Group of New England.

1996

  • The first Windows version of PGM is released.
  • PG Calc adds a toll-free client support line.

1997

  • PG Calc acquires Blackbaud's Paragon planned giving software and clients.
  • PG Calc style diagrams are added to PGM.

1998

  • GiftWrap 1.0 replaces Gift Annuity Organizer.
  • A monthly email with IRS discount rate and gift planning news is first sent to clients.

1999

  • PG Calc inaugurates GiftCalcs, the online gift calculations service.
  • A full-featured Online Help system is added to PGM.
  • NCPG reports that 95% of top 40 fundraising charities in the U.S. use Planned Giving Manager.

2000

  • PG Calc forges an agreement with Frank Minton, founder of Planned Giving Services, to add state-specific gift annuity agreements to PGM.

2001

  • The first PGM update is released as a website download

2002

  • PG Calc launches Gift Administration Service.

2003

  • GiftWrap 3.0, the first SQL version of GiftWrap, is released,
  • The Pooled Fund Organizer module of GiftWrap is released.
  • PG Calc releases a CD-ROM of Frank Minton's Charitable Gift Annuities: The Complete Resource Manual”.

2004

  • Gary Pforzheimer joins the NCPG Board.
  • PG Calc is the lead sponsor for the NCPG Conference in Dallas.

2005

  • The PG Calc staff reaches 27 strong and counting.
  • PG Calc celebrates its 20th anniversary and looks forward to another 20 productive years.

2006

  • BatchCalcs Service adds personalized planned gift calculations to a client mailing for the first time

2007

  • Released GiftStory software for creating multimedia planned gift presentations

2008

  • Gary Pforzheimer is named Chair-Elect of the NCPG Board.
  • PG Calc updates its brand image and adopts a new tagline, “Invested in Your Mission,” to communicate its commitment to the charities it serves.

2010

  • PG Calc celebrates its 25th year!
  • PG Calc makes Boston Business Journal’s 2010 Best Places to Work.
