Planned Giving for Canadians

Many U.S. charities – particularly colleges and universities – receive planned gifts from their Canadian supporters. Planned Giving for Canadians is the comprehensive resource on the subject for the charitable sector and for those working in partnership with charities, including lawyers, accountants, bankers, financial managers, estate planners, and insurance professionals. It is an essential resource for development officers who want to be able to offer their Canadian donors a full range of effective giving options.

Now in its third edition, the book was originally co-authored by Dr. Minton and Lorna Somers, and the two of them together published hard-copy editions in 1994 and 1997. Since many changes in tax law occurred after the 1997 edition, Dr. Minton produced a substantially revised edition in 2007 that incorporated all changes up to that date.

The book is now published electronically to enable annual updates as well as to facilitate key word searches. The 2010 update of the revised version of Planned Giving for Canadians was recently completed by Dr. Frank Minton, a longstanding supporter and FRIEND of CAGP-ACPDP.

Since 2009, an important feature of Planned Giving for Canadians is the inclusion of French translations of many of the gift agreements, forms, and other documents that appear in the appendices. These, like the English versions, can be downloaded and used by a charity.
