Featured Topic: Mortality and Life Expectancy: Cousins, Not Twins
Mortality and life expectancy are central to many calculations that gift planners provide to their prospects. Mortality comes into play every time you compute a charitable deduction value for a planned gift that will last for one or more lives. Life expectancy comes into play every time you estimate the ultimate remainder value to charity and total beneficiary payments that will be provided by a planned gift that will last for one or more lives.
Mortality. Life expectancy. These concepts are often misunderstood or even used interchangeably. While related, they are not the same. We will do our best to clear up the confusion.

HelpClip: Managing Management Fees in PGM
Planned Giving Manager (PGM) allows great flexibility in applying management fees. You can have PGM compute fees as a percentage of principal, a percentage of income, or both. You can apply a base fee or a minimum fee. You also can control how fees are paid -- whether from income, from principal, or from both.
PGM's Online Help explains how you can take advantage of all these management fee settings.

Time to Update Your Disclosure Information
The disclosure statement for gift annuities in our Planned Giving Manager (PGM) software fulfills all of the requirements of the Philanthropy Protection Act of 1995 regarding the disclosure of information to potential gift annuity donors. This statement should be provided to each gift annuity donor prior to the completion of his or her annuity agreement.
If you have been using or plan to use the Gift Annuity Disclosure Statement included in PGM, you should review and update the organization information that appears in this statement. To review and update this information:
- Select Customize - Organization Information in the Menu Bar.
- Select your organization, then click Edit.
- Use the Next button to advance to the Gift Annuity Disclosure Statement screens, and then update your organization information as needed.
- When done, choose File - Save Configuration in the Menu Bar to save your changes for use in future PGM sessions.
Windows Vista and PG Calc Software
Planned Giving Manager, Mini Manager and Gift Annuity Manager will run fine on Microsoft's Windows Vista. While Vista does not support the type of Help system that comes with PGM, a free tool is available from Microsoft that allows PGM's Help system to run. To download and install this tool, select the Help icon in PGM and follow the directions from Microsoft.
GiftWrap has compatibility problems on Vista. We are working on solving these issues in our next GiftWrap release. We also plan to make the necessary changes to make the software compatible with SQL 2005. The release date has not been established but the earliest potential release is late fall of this year.
GiftCalcs, GiftStory and the electronic version of Charitable Gift Annuities: The Complete Resource Manual work well on Vista with Internet Explorer version 7 or higher.
