A: GiftWrap contains many safeguards that help ensure that the data you enter complies with rules for specific gift vehicles. GiftWrap has been time-tested by top charities and service providers for the past 20 years. At PG Calc we’ve been through year-end, tax time, deaths and severances, and every exception to the rule. All this experience goes into GiftWrap, giving you the confidence to get the job done right.
Q: How does GiftWrap differ from a fundraising database?
A: GiftWrap doesn’t just store data; GiftWrap is able to perform computations important to a planned gifts program, such as FASB 116/117 liabilities, gift annuity reserves, and expectancies. Without GiftWrap, reports like these might take days of work with spreadsheets or the services of outside professionals.
Q: Can GiftWrap data be shared on a network
A: Yes, it’s a good idea to install the GiftWrap database on your local area network (LAN) so that multiple users can access the data. Putting the database on a network is also often the best way to provide for regular backups.
Q: Can GiftWrap run over a Wide Area Network?
A: The GiftWrap application and the data engine can be installed in different locations and run over a wide area network (WAN). At this time, however, the performance over a wide area network is too slow to be practical for most users.
Q: How do I decide between MSDE and SQL for the GiftWrap data engine?
A: Most GiftWrap clients use MSDE, the standard data engine provided at no charge with your GiftWrap software. If you have more than five simultaneous users or a large database, we recommend using SQL Server as the data engine. There is an additional fee for the SQL version of GiftWrap.
Some clients elect to upgrade to the SQL version of GiftWrap before reaching the recommended limits if there is an existing SQL Server in place. This is usually a decision made by your system administrator. For the end user, there is no noticeable difference between running GiftWrap with MSDE or SQL.
