IRS Applicable Federal Midterm Rate for January 2010 is 3.0%.

As an eventful 2009 draws to a close, some of our readers may recall that we made some predictions last January about what might be in store for the year ahead. Punditry can be a risky undertaking, but we actually did pretty well in our forecast for 2009. After reviewing our 2009 predictions, we'll be incautious again and make some predictions for 2010.

Quick Tip: Personalize Calculations from Functions in the Tools Menu
Planned Giving Manager (PGM) version 6.2A includes nine new functions under the Tools menu to help you perform a variety of helpful calculations including Present Value of Future Bequest, Deduction for Gift Annuity Termination, and Life Expectancy.

Similar to personalizing calculations run in PGM for proposals and projections, you can personalize the presentations printed from any of the new tools. First, select Personalization Icons on any PGM Main Screen. Then, enter the information you want to appear on the presentation. For example, enter the donor’s name in the "Prepared for" field and the preparer’s name in the "Prepared by" field to have the names of the donor and preparer appear on the presentation.

Help Clip: Year End Update in GiftWrap
Year End Update is a critical function in GiftWrap. It makes adjustments to data that allow for a smooth transition from one year to the next. As its name implies, Year End Update must be run at the end of each year. More specifically, it should be run after producing the last payments for the current year and before producing either tax forms for the current year or the first payments for the new calendar year. Refer to GiftWrap Help for guidance on how to run Year End Update and a comprehensive explanation of the adjustments it makes.

At its November meeting, the Board of Directors of the American Council on Gift Annuities (ACGA) elected PG Calc’s Edie Matulka to fill an open spot on the Board.

An expert on state regulation of charitable gift annuities, Edie works in our Seattle office and has well over a decade of experience with numerous aspects of CGAs. Along with former ACGA Board Chair Frank Minton and Bill Zook, she is a co-author of Charitable Gift Annuities: The Complete Resource Manual, which has just been updated and is available from PG Calc either in print or electronically.
