Charitable lead trusts, while rarely consummated, remain a topic of lively conversation amongst gift planners and professional advisors. Despite recent changes in transfer taxes that have greatly reduced the number of taxable estates, today’s planned giving professionals should have a basic level of understanding and comfort with the lead trust concept. This class will work through several examples of lead trusts, giving the attendee a general sense of when the lead trust makes sense, and when it does not.

The purpose of DAFs, of course, is to distribute their funds over time to operating charities like yours. How do you help your charity attract a slice of the huge and rapidly expanding DAF pie?

Join us for a discussion of the DAF landscape and strategies you can use to bring more DAF grants to your organization. Gary Pforzheimer, PG Calc President, will offer his insights into DAFs sponsored by operating charities, as well as those hosted by financial services firms. Renee Kurdzos, Director of Gift Planning, Fundraising at The Nature Conservancy, will share what she’s learned about attracting DAF gifts after leading a task force at her previous employer to rethink her charity’s approach to DAF fundraising. Her discussion will include the kinds of changes her charity made and its experience attracting more gifts from DAFs once those changes were in place.

Looking for ideas on how to increase the amount of DAF grants your charity receives? Attend this webinar!

GiftWrap’s CashTrac functionality allows the charity to maintain an ongoing market value for each and every charitable gift annuity. This is critically important because the charity needs to know how much of the original principal remains when the annuitant dies. Since the assets for all the gift annuities are combined into one or two investment pools, there is no other way to keep track of the individual market values. It also helps charities to reconcile payment issues and to monitor the ongoing health of the gift annuity programs. This training session will be invaluable for all GiftWrap clients who wish to manage their gift annuity programs more effectively.

Has your nonprofit bumped into roadblocks while attempting to receive IRA death proceeds from a donor? Have IRA administrators delayed the death claim process by requesting more and more forms, requiring your organization to set up a second account just to get the proceeds, or asking for personal information about your officers or board members while telling you (erroneously) the Patriot Act requires you to provide it? What was once a simple practice of providing a death certificate and receiving your share of the IRA within 30-60 days has turned into a laborious procedure. The good news is that, led by the efforts of Johni Hays and a few others, we are making progress toward simplifying the process. Join us to learn the latest on how your nonprofit can get its IRA death proceeds faster and without providing unnecessary personal information.

Are you getting as many repeat gift annuities (CGAs) as you should? What about additions to charitable remainder trusts? If not, you might be missing some steps in the dance required to steward these gifts. Good gift administration is not “rocket science,” but just like a well-choreographed dance, each party involved needs to know their role and whose turn it is to lead. Whether it is ensuring that the treasury office knows where to deposit a CGA versus an outright gift, when a discount rate selection disclosure is needed, or what to do when a donor calls to say they didn’t get their annuity payment, the detailed steps are specific and important to a well-stewarded gift. Join us for this webinar to learn why you should care about the choreography and what gift administration steps might be missing at your organization. Learn how covering all the movements can help you secure additional gifts.

Wealth is not held in cash; it’s held in other assets like stocks, bonds, real estate, and IRAs. Research shows that shifting donors to giving from their wealth (assets), rather than just from their cash (disposable income) can lead to transformational donations. But how can we actually make this happen? Talking about someone else’s wealth can be scary! In this presentation, Professor James walks through the step-by-step process that makes these conversations simple, easy, and stress free. You don’t need to be a gift planning expert to inspire major gifts of assets. You just need to attend this presentation!

What’s a QCD? What’s an RMD? And how do they relate to a CGA? What is cost basis all about? And what about S-CRUTs and F-CRUTs, and all the other “flavors” of charitable remainder unitrusts? So many questions, so much confusion! In planned giving, we use a lot of acronyms, abbreviations, and other terms, with the assumption that everyone knows what we’re talking about. This webinar will go through an extensive list of the everyday terms bandied about in planned giving conversations – definitions of the terms and how they are relevant. The session should be helpful to anyone involved in planned giving conversations.

Cultivating planned gifts is an art. Successful fundraising is a disciplined process. When to “disqualify” a prospective donor is a dilemma because our inclination is to pursue additional cultivation steps that might convert the prospect into a donor. Craig Wruck will share what he’s learned in over 40 years as a gift planner and fundraising executive as he explores ways to improve productivity by ruthlessly disqualifying those who are unlikely to become donors and graciously but efficiently setting them aside in order to preserve precious time and effort for well qualified planned giving prospects.
